1998 Declaration Tawny
In Hawke’s Bay, the 1998 vintage is widely regarded as one of—if not the—greatest on record. An exceptionally hot and dry season delivered intensely concentrated, beautifully ripe fruit, particularly from the gravelly soils of our home in the Gimblett Gravels. Cabernet Sauvignon was the undeniable star of the year: the warmth produced boldly structured wines with deep dark-fruit character, firm yet polished tannins, and outstanding ageing potential.
In celebration of Pask’s 40th vintage, we knew there was no more meaningful way to honour our history than by releasing the final, treasured barrel from our iconic 1998 harvest. This single-barrel, 27-year-old Tawny Cabernet Sauvignon, laid to rest in oak in April 1998 and hand-bottled on 20 August 2025, captures a moment in time now long past. With only 236 bottles in existence, this is a once-in-a-generation release, crafted to be savoured, shared, and remembered.

Pask produces four ranges of wines, each carefully crafted to offer distinctive character and style. With the exception of the Instinct line, all Pask wines are estate grown and bottled.
Pask vineyards and winery are located in the province of Hawke's Bay, on the east coast of the North Island, one of the hottest and sunniest areas of New Zealand. With 2320 annual sunshine hours, moderate rainfall, sheltering inland ranges and a warm maritime climate with a long growing season, the region is an ideal location for creating grapes of exceptional quality.
